How to create a cosy bedroom using colour

Creating comfort within a bedroom space is probably the most important element to sleeping soundly, when considering which colours to choose when decorating a bedroom I recommend using neutral hues and applying texture in layers, this will create a comforting and warming space.

Colours are energetic in nature and this is why neutral off white colours which are found lowest on the visual spectrum provide calming effects which resonate more deeply, particularly during times of uncertainty. However, too much brilliant white can also risk looking stark and austere, to avoid this try applying accents of soft warmer hues particularly those which are also found in nature will help to create a sense of tranquility.

Green & Blue;

Green is known to harness feelings of trust and comfort. A soft green hue can be enough to create the sense of harmony.

Blue is also another colour that is commonly found in nature and associated with relaxation and positivity, a clear blue sky or a restful lake for example.

Recent colour trends have seen a move towards pinks and blush tones, however these colours contain pigments of red which is an excitable colour often associated with danger and anger and not conducive to restfulness and high quality sleep.

If you are enjoying the new blush tones and would like to use this palette in your bedroom try using tones which are more ‘buff’ and similar to skin, this colour is more familiar and trusted and allows your scheme to be on-trend without being over stimulating.
